GERB leader Boyko Borissov told reporters before the inaugural sitting of the 51st National Assembly that there is no good Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and GERB will not work with either of the two factions into which the Movement split.

The leader of the largest parliamentary force, GERB-UDF, said a government can be formed without MRF-New Beginning, the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms (ARF), Vazrazhdane and MECh, adding that the rest of the groups in Parliament can form a government.

"Such a government can only be led by me," Borissov said, adding that this will stop other parties from exerting influence. "This would be an act of self-sacrifice, not a gesture to me," he said.

The MRF split into two factions in July, one loyal to honorary chairman Ahmed Dogan, which ran in the October 27 parliamentary elections as ARF, and another led by Delyan Peevski, which ran for parliament as MRF-New Beginning.

The second largest parliamentary force, Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), called for a "cordon sanitaire" around Peevski, urging the other parliamentary groups to sign a declaration that they will not work with MRF-New Beginning in Parliament.

Eight parties and coalitions entered Parliament after the October 27 snap elections: GERB-UDF (69 seats), CC-DB (37 seats), Vazrazhdane (35 seats), MRF-New Beginning (30 seats), BSP-United Left (20 seats), ARF (19 seats), There Is Such a People (18 seats) and MECh (Morality, Unity, Honour) (12 seats).
