Investments in educational and sports infrastructure, culture and tourism are among the measures financed under Operational Programme (OP) Regions in Growth 2021-2027, said Galina Ivanova, head of the Northeast Region Department of the Main Directorate for Strategic Planning and Programmes for Regional Development at the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works. She was speaking at the Europe in the Balkans: Together through Knowledge conference in Veliki Preslav on Friday.

The OP Regions in Growth 2021-2027 has a total financial resource of BGN 3.6 million, and the measures planned for implementation will build on those under the 2014 -2020 programming period , she pointed out. In 2023, the first procedure for submitting Concepts for Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) was announced, during which 165 concepts were submitted and passed the relevant evaluation procedures, Ivanova noted. She specified that 93 of these concepts include measures in education, culture, sports and tourism with a total value of approximately BGN 613 million.

After an assessment, a general programme for the Northeastern Region was approved, which includes 14 concepts for ITI with a total value of over BGN 311 million. In five of the approved concepts, implementation measures in educational infrastructure are foreseen, while other concepts include measures for the health care infrastructure. She announced that the programme's governing body is currently developing application guidelines, and a procedure for submitting project proposals in accordance with the approved concepts for ITI is to be announced soon.
