site.btaEU's First Diplomats Discuss Syria, Eastern Mediterranean, Ukraine

October 14 (BTA) - Syria, the situation in the
Eastern Mediterranean and Ukraine topped the agenda of Monday's
Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg. The Bulgarian
delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister
 Ekaterina Zaharieva, her Ministry said.

The EU's chief diplomats voiced concern over Turkey's continuing
 drilling activities in Cyprus' exclusive economic zone and
affirmed the need of strict abidance by international maritime
law and of respect for the sovereignty of the Republic of
Cyprus.

The foreign ministers and the Special Envoy of the UN
Secretary-General for Syria, Geir Pedersen, discussed the
situation in North East Syria.

Being the representative of a country with an over 300 km long
border with Turkey, Zaharieva stressed the importance of keeping
 the communication channels with Ankara open. Bulgaria believes
it is of key importance to continue implementing the EU-Turkey
