Deputy Minister Rumyana Petkova Tuesday said the Labour and Social Policy Ministry has always held that effective social dialogue is the way to go to deal with the challenges to labour rights protection. She addressed a two-day conference in Sofia of the European Regional Committee of Building and Wood Workers' International (BWI). The event is hosted by the Construction, Industry and Water Supply Federation of the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour.

The modern world of labour is changing dynamically under the influence of demographic challenges, the green and digital transition, economic restructuring and the complicated geopolitical environment, Petkova said. Efforts are being focused on providing training opportunities, and the upskilling and reskilling of unemployed and employed persons.

The Deputy Minister identified as a challenge the strong mobility of the workforce in the construction sector. Its workers account for about half of all posted workers in the European Union, who are increasingly also third-country nationals.
