site.btaNew Bulgarian University Marks Artist Vasil Stoilov's 120th Anniversary with Exhibition
New Bulgarian University (NBU) will celebrate the 120th anniversary of the birth of artist Vasil Stoilov with two events on September 25, the organizers said. As part of the celebration, Stoilov's manuscript The Dutch Landscape in the 17th Century and Architectural Motifs Therein from 1953 will be published. NBU's UniArt Gallery will host the exhibition Vasil Stoilov - Architectural Motifs between September 24 and November 30.
The project is supported by the Central Fund for Strategic Development of the NBU Board of Trustees, the Student Council, the NBU Book Center and the Bulgarian-European Cultural Dialogue Centre Foundation.
Vasil Stoilov was born in Sofia in 1904, where he graduated from the National Academy of Art. He lived in Paris between 1928 and 1932. His works were exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in the Grand Palais, at the Figaro Gallery and the Henri Manuel Gallery in Montmartre. He organized his first solo exhibition in Bulgaria in 1932. He became a professor of fine arts in 1958. He died in Sofia on February 13, 1990.
