site.btaEurope’s Top Wheelchair Basketball Teams Gather in Sofia

Europe’s top wheelchair basketball teams have gathered in Sofia for the Basketball Inclusive Games (BIG). 

The Games take place from September 7 to 11 and are hosted by Levski basketball club for people with disabilities. The tournament itself will be held from September 8 to 10 September at Sofia’s Triaditsa Sports Hall and CSKA Sofia Basketball Hall.  

The champions will be determined between the teams of Serbia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, Turkiye, Romania and Poland. 

Within the framework of BIG, an international coaching seminar will be held with participants from more than ten European countries. Also, an expert roundtable for educators, psychologists, social workers, rehabilitation therapists and sports managers will be organized to identify strengths and personal development.     

The BIG festival will open at 7 pm on Sunday outside Sofia’s National Palace of Culture. Special addresses will be made by Bulgarian Sports Minister Georgi Glushkov, FIBA Europe Vice President Carmen Tokala and Petr Tucek, Secretary General of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation.  

BIG is the culmination of a 12-month international partnership initiative between the Levski Basketball Club for People with Disabilities and leading organizations from 12 European countries, including the Croatian Wheelchair Basketball Federation, the Romanian Basketball Federation, the Paralympic Committee of Slovenia and others. This international partnership is dedicated to inclusivity for people with disabilities in basketball and aims to empower participants, creating a lasting positive impact on the European sports community, according to the Bulgarian Basketball Federation.

The Games in Sofia are open to the general public who are invited to support the athletes and become part of a unique sporting event that demonstrates exceptional sports spirit and skill.
