site.btaCulture Ministry, Stara Zagora Regional Governor Discuss Management of Buzludzha Monument

The state of the Buzludzha Monument and its future management were discussed at a meeting between Culture Minister Nayden Todorov and Stara Zagora Regional Governor Metodi Markov, said the press centre of the Regional Administration on Thursday.

The aim of the meeting was to identify a concept and strategy for future actions regarding the functionality of the monument. At the moment, as a structure, the building does not meet any regulatory requirements, Markov pointed out in an interview for BTA. He commented that an order to prohibit access to the monument was issued based on the instructions of both the fire department and the Regional Directorate for National Building Control.

A decision was made to organize a working meeting at an expert level between the Agriculture and Food Ministry, the Culture Ministry, the Stara Zagora Regional Administration and the National Park Museum Shipka-Buzludzha, in order to draw up a working map on how to implement the discussed concepts and strategies. In addition, the Council of Ministers will attempt to secure targeted funds for the preparation of an up-to-date structural report regarding the functional and operational suitability of the building.

The regulation of the state properties falling within the scope of the National Park Museum Shipka-Buzludzha was also raised at the meeting, due to the impossibility of their full and effective management by any of the interested parties. At the beginning of August, the Kazanlak Municipality announced that a local referendum will be organized on whether the municipal administration should take over the management of the monument. However, the Municipality can receive jurisdiction over the monument only after experts have completed their evaluations about the operational qualities and future of the site.
