The ninth edition of the Opera on the Peaks Summer Festival will continue on Friday with two performances of Medea by Luigi Cherubini, with soloists Gabriela Georgieva and Lilia Kehayova in the main roles.
There will also be performances on August 10 and 11, which will feature, among others, Daniel Damyanov and Daniel Ostretsov, as well as Stanislava Momekova and Diana Vasileva.
The performances are an adaptation of the Bulgarian premiere production at the Sofia Opera and Ballet House, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Maria Callas, and will be performed for the first time on the Belogradchik Rocks, said Sofia Opera and Ballet Director Plamen Kartaloff.
During the first week of the festival, the Sofia Opera presented productions of Tosca, Madame Butterfly and Turandot on three consecutive evenings. According to Kartaloff, the creation of the Opera on the Peaks Summer Festival is a desire for opera to merge with nature. "Many people say that there is no such environment in the whole world in which to play an opera performance", he noted.
