Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev reaffirmed during Question Time in Parliament his commitment, within the framework of his term in office, to make the necessary legislative changes related to the policy coordination council for Bulgarians abroad. The deadline for the adoption of the regulations for the Council and its activities is three months from the entry into force of the law, May 5, 2024. The issue was brought up by Vazrazhdane’s MP Dimcho Dimchev.

Dimchev explained that on April 29 Parliament adopted a bill amending and supplementing the law on Bulgarians living outside Bulgaria, promulgated in the State Gazette in May this year. According to this draft law, the caretaker Prime Minister heads a coordination council, which is supposed to coordinate policies for Bulgarians living outside the country, Dimchev pointed out and asked Glavchev whether he had convened the Council and whether the rules of procedure had been adopted.

The caretaker Prime Minister explained that the adoption of this bill coincided with the mandate of the current caretaker government. “No government, not even a caretaker government, can afford to neglect issues of paramount political and strategic importance, such as the interests of Bulgarians abroad, which is why I confirm my commitment to do what is necessary within my term to make the legislative changes operational,” Glavchev said.

In the words of the caretaker Prime Minister, the preservation and dissemination of the Bulgarian language and culture among Bulgarian communities abroad is extremely important. These goals require careful strategic planning, synchronized with many state bodies and institutions, Glavchev added.
