A two-day National Scientific Conference on Climate Risks in the Black Sea Region ended in Sofia on Friday. The event was organized by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Waters as part of the 61st session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It took place at BAS Headquarters.

The second day's agenda included four scientific sessions highlighting, respectively, the reactions of Black Sea ecosystems to climate change, hydrological processes in the Bulgarian Black Sea basin, the impact and the risks of climate change in coastal waters, and approaches and models of adaptation to climate change.

Latest data, research methods, scientific technologies and the need for action in various directions were discussed in reports by professors of the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia and the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Sofia, representatives of the BAS Centre for National Security and Defence Research and scientists from many BAS institutes.

Speakers shed light on Bulgarian and European policies to address climate change, which impact the development of the Black Sea region.
