Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has sent a letter to the caretaker Minister of Health Galya Kondeva, with a copy to caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, referring them to the need for immediate measures for the timely performance of forensic examinations appointed by the pre-trial authorities in Sofia and the region, the prosecution service reported on Thursday. On July 22, the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SCPO) and Sofia Regional Prosecution Office were notified by the Aleksandrovska University Hospital Executive Director, Dr Atanas Ionkov, that the acceptance of cadavers for storage, autopsies and forensic examinations at the hospital's Forensic Medicine and Deontology Clinic is being discontinued, as the capacity of the clinic's cadaver repository has been exhausted.

Other institutions have also been informed of the problem.

Sarafov stressed that this could block pre-trial proceedings on the territory of Sofia and the region, if commissioning forensic examinations in cases of causing death and bodily harm becomes impossible.
