site.btaEU Member States Requested to Name Two Candidates for European Commissioners by August 30
The European Commission Thursday sent to the Member States letters requesting the names of their candidates for European Commissioners. Each country has to name two nominees - one man and one woman - by August 30, a Commission Spokesperson told a news conference here on Thursday.
This is a request aimed at achieving equal distribution by gender in the new European Commission. The selection will be based on the candidates' qualities, the Spokesperson underscored.
The candidates are planned to be subjected to an exam by the European Parliament in autumn. Those who pass successfully will be included in the list of the new Commission and will be voted on by the MEPs.
