With extremely hot weather expected on Wednesday, July 17, heavy-duty trucks are barred off some of the national roads in 10 of Bulgaria's 28 administrative regions during the hottest part of the day to minimize the risk of damage to road surfaces and reduce the danger of health issues to drivers and passengers, the Road Infrastructure Agency said.
The ban applies to trucks with gross weight of over 20 tonnes for the period from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the northern regions of Ruse, Shumen, Varna, Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Targovishte, Razgrad and Silistra, as well as Sofia in the southwest. During the waiting period, over-20-t trucks should be parked off the carriageway at designated places, where they will not hinder vehicles on the road.
The restriction does not apply to trucks carrying perishable food, temperature-sensitive goods, live animals or dangerous products.
