Over 700 Lecturers Train in Innovative Educational Technologies - Education Minister

Over 700 lecturers in Bulgarian state higher education institutions trained in innovative educational technologies and about 800 in the competency-based approach, said Monday caretaker Minister of Education and Science Galin Tsokov. The training was held within the national programme on improving the competencies of lecturers in state higher education institutions preparing future teachers.

"It is very important that we not only organized hundreds of trainings for the lecturers, but also, thanks to the joint work with the higher education institutions, we have created manuals that will be used in the coming years, both for improving the qualification and for the preparation of future teachers", Tsokov said. In his words, the initiative has strengthened the relationship between universities and schools.

A national network of university centres for innovative educational technologies has also been established under the programme. A publicly accessible virtual library with a wide set of materials, presentations, and video lectures has been created and is gaining the interest of prospective and current teachers.

The final meeting of the programme, hosted by the Department for Qualification and Professional Development of Pedagogical Specialists at Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov University in Burgas, was attended by representatives of 20 higher education institutions, representatives of training teams, teachers, among others.

The creation of new national higher education programmes was discussed during the final session of the programme, at a round table on educational needs of higher education lecturers, digitalization, qualifications, competences, trends and perspectives for national higher education programmes.
