Bulgaria qualified for the final of the Women's U18 Volleyball European Championship for the first time in history. The Bulgarian team, led by coach Antonina Zetova, defeated Italy 3:2 (25:20, 23:25, 25:20, 17:25, 18:16) in the semifinal stage of the tournament in Blaj, Romania, on Friday.

The young Bulgarians went up by one game to nil and by two games to one, but the Italians managed to equalize twice, reaching a tiebreak. In the decider, Bulgaria was trailing 6:10 and 11:14, but equalised at 14:14, then making a comeback for the final score of 18:16 in the fifth game.

Bulgarian player Denitsa Angelova scored a total of 18 points, while three of her teammates – Nicol Okoro, Kalina Veneva and Vyara Parapunova, added 12 each.

In the final on Saturday, Bulgaria will face the winner of the match between Belgium and Poland which will be played later Friday.
