Navigation conditions on the Danube will be improved through a EUR 10 million EU project, Ivelin Zanev, head of the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River, told BTA here on Thursday. The DISMAR project is funded under the Interreg VI-A Romania-Bulgaria 2021-2027 cross-border cooperation programme.

Zanev specified that this is the first project to be carried out jointly with the River Administration of the Lower Danube - Romania. The Bulgarian and Romanian institutions will cooperate to implement an integrated signage system for the shipping lane in the common river section.

The project will aim to improve the maintenance of navigation signs. A single integrated marking system will provide real-time information on the status of the navigational and coastal signs in the common Bulgarian-Romanian section.
