The Council of Ministers Wednesday adopted a decision approving Bulgaria’s stance and delegation composition for the sixth meeting of the Bulgarian-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation on July 1 in Baku, the Government Information Service said.

The meeting will be chaired by Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov and Azerbaijan’s Agriculture Minister Majnun Mammadov.

Discussions will focus on topics in the main areas of bilateral cooperation, including energy, economy, trade, agriculture, transport, tourism, defence, and intellectual property. Among the highlights of the talks will be the expansion of the investment and energy partnership between the two countries.

Azerbaijan is Bulgaria's key partner for the implementation of one of this country's main priorities in the energy sector, namely the diversification of energy sources. Bulgaria is interested in the supply of additional quantities of natural gas from Azerbaijan and supports the future expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor, the Government Information Service added. The country is actively working on the development of the Vertical Gas Corridor as a strategic project for South-Eastern, Central and Eastern Europe. Bulgaria is a partner in the Green Energy Corridor project aimed at tapping into renewable energy opportunities in the Caspian region.

The Commission is expected to identify concerted measures to expand business ties between the two countries in various areas of mutual interest.
