Commenting on words of caretaker Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov that Bulgaria is able to supply more of its surplus military equipment to Ukraine, President Rumen Radev said Wednesday that it is no longer a question of providing weapons as the issue now is about the lack of people on the battlefield because this is a war that is being fought with a lot of people.

In the head of State’s words, the issue now is the lack of people who are prepared and motivated to go to the battlefront.

"You watch other TVs, I guess, other media around the world, which clearly report what is happening on the streets of Ukraine. There is no way to achieve any success in this truly ugly and bloody war with people who are being caught in the streets and forcibly taken to the front," Radev argued, speaking to reporters. "It is high time to start negotiations for a cessation of hostilities and to seek conditions for peace under the UN Charter," he added.

Regarding the possibility of Bulgaria providing arms to Ukraine, Radev said that the Bulgarian army needs to maintain a solid capacity of defence capabilities.
