site.btaPresident Asks MRF How They Assess New Parliament's Prospects
Meeting with Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) on Monday as part of consultations with the political forces, President Rumen Radev asked them how they assess the prospects of the 50th National Assembly in their capacity as second political force.
The head of State started meeting with the parliamentary groups in the 50th National Assembly as a step towards the formation of a regular government after the June 9 snap elections. His Monday agenda includes meetings with representatives of the three largest groups: GERB-UDF with 68 MPs, MRF with 47 MPs and Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) with 38 MPs in the 240-seat Parliament.
At the meeting with MRF, Radev noted that after a potential failure of the first exploratory government-forming mandate (which will go to GERB as the biggest political force in the legislature), the second will necessarily go to MRF. The President asked if the party has any ideas for its mandate’s implementation and what would be the successful formula for a sustainable government.
Radev also asked MRF representatives how the problem of low voter turnout can be solved.
MRF floor leader Yordan Tsonev said it would be logical to back the mandate of election winner GERB.
