Borislav Gutsanov, Floor Leader of the BSP (Bulgarian Socialist Party) for Bulgaria, told reporters here on Friday that President Rumen Radev should represent Bulgaria at the NATO Summit on July 9 - 11 in Washington, D.C.

Gutsanov added: "This was the position we expressed during the [sitting of the National Assembly] presiding body, because we believe that the President is the commander-in-chief, he was directly elected by the entire people with tremendous legitimacy, and besides, the current government is a caretaker one, and its term of office is expiring."

He said that the decision who to represent the country at the NATO Summit was not made in the plenary, because the National Assembly presiding body concluded that ultimately it is the competence of the Council of Ministers.

Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev sent a letter on Thursday to National Assembly Chair Raya Nazaryan and the parliamentary groups in the 50th Parliament to ask who will represent Bulgaria at the NATO Summit on July 9 - 11 in Washington, D.C.
