The Council of Ministers Wednesday adopted a Decision approving the 2023 Annual Report of the National Health Insurance Fund's (NHIF) activity, the Cabinet's press office said.

According to the report, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a significant impact on the normal functioning of the healthcare system and the operations of the NHIF in the reporting year 2023. The process of normalization and recovery of the healthcare system from the difficult situation in which it finds itself due to the global pandemic continues.

The organisation of the NHIF's activities during the reporting period was characterised by flexibility and adaptation to the dynamically changing conditions in the health system. The return to normal service conditions for the insured persons of the health care institutions has been supported and accompanied by continuous analysis by the NHIF in order to monitor and administer the processes.

A new three-year national framework contract for medical and dental care for the period 2023 - 2025 was signed in 2023 between the NHIF and the Bulgarian Medical Association and the Bulgarian Dental Association respectively.
