In an open letter to party members circulated by the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) press centre on Thursday, BSP leader Korneliya Ninova argued that "the gates to the BSP fortress will not be shattered from the outside but will be unbarred from the inside".
On Wednesday, Ninova resigned as leader of the socialist party.
"I will not participate in the work of BSP’s Executive Bureau and National Council to avoid any implications of interference of mine in the decisions of the collective bodies of the party," Ninova explained, adding that she would focus on her work in parliament.
She warned the BSP members that they are in for difficult few months. In her words, not even 24 hours have passed since her resignation and the bidding for the BSP has already begun. There have been some statements that the party will retreat from some of its long-standing positions, Ninova stressed.
On Wednesday, BSP Deputy Chair Atanas Zafirov told Nova TV that it is possible for the party to support a cabinet as long as this cabinet implements the party’s views that had been set in its election campaign. Zafirov said that the BSP would support an expert cabinet, equidistant from all political parties.
