With the European Parliament elections over in many EU countries, the BTA special correspondents to the 27 EU countries have started reporting the exit poll data and estimated EP seat allocation.

In Austria, the data point to an electoral victory for the Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) with 27%, according to the exit polls.

In Belgium, the far-right Vlaams Belang party remained second in the polls, local media reported, citing preliminary figures of around 30 % of the ballots counted. The winner is New Flemish Alliance with 25.2% of the votes.

The exit polls diverge widely in Denmark and the winner will be clear after midnight once all the votes have been counted.

In Germany, the CDU/CSU is the front-runner, with Alternative for Germany as runner-up, exit polls show.

In Greece, the winner is the ruling centre-right New Democracy party, according to the exit polls. 

In the Netherlands the pro-European GroenLinks–PvdA coalition wins the most seats - eight out of the 31 that this country will have in the new EP, according to estimates announced on the EP website.

According to exit polls in Croatia, the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) received the most votes (33.74%), securing six seats in the EU legislature. Runner-up is the coalition around the opposition Social Democratic Party with 27.81% and four seats. 

In Finland, the National Coalition Party takes the biggest share of votes, according to early returns from the Finnish Ministry of Justice based on 53.7% of ballots counted.

France's far-right populist National Rally party won a landslide with 32.4% of the vote, according to a poll presented on TF1.

In Lithuania, exit poll figures were not published after the end of voting in the EP elections and the election administration said that the first results will be released after midnight.

The first exit poll data by Ipsos for TVN24 in Poland show that Prime Minister Donald Tusk's Civic Coalition got 38.2%, while Jaroslaw Kaczynski's opposition Law and Justice 33.9%.

The alliance between the ruling Social Democratic Party and the National Liberal Party in Romania will have the most seats in the EP. It receives 54% of the votes, according to an exit poll released by Romanian national television right after polls closed.

The exit poll of the Swedish national broadcaster SVT1 shows that the Swedish Social Democratic Workers' Party (SPD) wins with 23.1%. MORE
