The MENAR Film Festival, highlighting cinema productions from the Middle East, Asia and North Africa, will be held in Asenovgrad for the eighth time between June 14 and July 6, the municipal government reported on Friday. The outdoor festival will present seven feature and three documentary films. Admission is free.

Bangladesh and Qatar will be featured for the first time in Asenovgrad. The entries from the two countries are The Instinct, which is about life around a Bangladesh train station with all manner of crime, greed and desire, and Places of the Soul, a chronicle of a journey from the sands of Arabia to the icy Antarctic.

The festival will take place in the yard of the Paissii Hilendarski Library. It will open on the night of June 14 with a screening of A Childless Village, a comedy drama from Iran. All screenings will begin at 9 p.m.

The event is organized by Grunge Media and the Pozor Association, and financed by Asenovgrad Municipality. "Pleasant surprises" are planned for the audience, as usual.

June 21: Nublu – Turkiye, documentary (2017), directed by Sercan Sezgin;

June 27: Desert Rocker – Algeria, documentary (2022), directed by Sara Nacer;

June 28: Double or Nothing – Morocco, drama (2023), directed by Rachida Saadi;

June, 29: Pinto – Iran, drama (2022), directed by Narges Abyar;

July 4: Places of the Soul – Qatar, documentary (2022), directed by Hamida Issa;

July 5: The Scent of the Wormwood – Kyrgyzstan, drama (2022), directed by Aibek Daiyrbekov;

July 6: All Roads Lead to Rome – Lebanon, comedy (2022), directed by Lara Saba.
