Green Movement co-leader Toma Belev believes that the parties that have run the country "long enough and have brought crises" should not participate in the next government. "It is time for GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) to go in opposition for at least 4 years," he said in a Bulgarian National Radio interview. Belev is running for the national Parliament and the European Parliament in the June 9 elections.

"There is no way for us to be in a government together with GERB and MRF. We made a decision about that in 2020," he said. He believes that what he called "the whitewashing" of Delyan Peevski, one of the two MRF leaders, and GERB leader Boyko Borissov is only part of the political talk and what they say in their meetings with voters show their real attitude. "Somebody may be trying to get whitewashed but it does not mean they have become clean," he said.

For Belev, more attention should be paid to the quality of life of Bulgarian people. "This year's budget has BGN 150 million for football fields and only BGN 10 million for school gyms, and 20% of schools in this country don't have gyms. And instead of thinking about children's health, the current MPs voted BGN 1 billion for the Maritsa-East coal mines. 30% of the fine particulate matter in Sofia comes from such installations. And only the MPs of the Green Movement voted against the allocations to the Maritsa East mines," Belev said.
