A Memorandum of Cooperation between the Bulgarian town of Kazanlak and the Vietnamese city of Lai Chau was re-signed here on Saturday. The document was signed by Kazanlak Mayor Galina Stoyanova and Nguyen Van Nghiep, head of Vietnam’s delegation and representative of the Lai Chau People's Committee.

Stoyanova opened the ceremony and described it as a very important step. She recalled that Kazanlak Municipality signed a cooperation agreement with Lai Chau in Hanoi a few months ago in the presence of a Bulgarian government delegation. "Today we want to confirm our willingness to cooperate by re-signing the agreement on the territory of Kazanlak. It is very important for us that our friends from Vietnam know that Kazanlak has been linked to their country for many years," she said.

In his address, Nguyen Van Nghiep said, "We respectfully extend to the Mayor and municipal councillors of Kazanlak our wishes for health, happiness, and success. We wish the friendship and cooperation between the two countries to develop further."

Saturday’s ceremony was attended by delegations from Kazanlak's twin towns from the Republic of Korea, Greece, Italy, and the Republic of North Macedonia, along with Kazanlak Municipal Council Chair Nikolay Zlatanov, and Deputy Mayors Srebra Kaseva, Akseniya Tileva, Daniela Koeva, and Dragomir Petkov.

In the document signed on Saturday, the representatives of the Vietnamese city of Lai Chau and Kazanlak Municipality committed to taking measures for common development and expansion of cooperation in specific areas. The two sides are expected to regularly exchange information on their socio-economic development, potential, and preferred policies, and to promote business investment. It is envisaged that Lai Chau and Kazanlak will develop and adopt annual cooperation plans after discussing the achievements of the past year and agreeing on an action plan for the following year. As priority areas for cooperation, the memorandum identifies investment promotion, information exchange, technology transfer, cooperation in tourism, culture, vocational training, and science.
