Bulgarian football club Levski (Sofia) announced Monday the appointment of Stanislav Genchev as their new head coach on a two-year contract. The 43-year-old Bulgarian arrives from another local top-flight team, FC Krumovgrad, taking over the position from Nikolay Kostov.
Assistants of Genchev, whose youth career started in Levski, will be other former Levski players - Darko Tasevski and Zhivko Milanov. Milanov has already served as a Levski Sofia head coach in 2021, while Tasevski arrives from Slavia (Sofia), where he was an assistant coach.
As a professional footballer, Genchev has 70 appearances for Levski (Sofia), in which he scored seven goals and provided three assists. He also played for Litex (Lovech), Ludogorets (Razgrad), Slavia (Sofia), Cherno More (Varna), Etar (Veliko Tarnovo) in Bulgaria, for FC Vaslui in Romania, and AEL Limassol in Cyprus. Genchev also has five appearances and one goal for Bulgaria’s national football team.
In his coaching career, Genchev won two Bulgarian league titles with Ludogorets (as a caretaker manager) in 2020 and 2021. Under his management, newly promoted FC Krumovgrad finished 6th in the league table in the 2023/2024 season.
