The leader of the nationalist Vazrazhdane party, Kostadin Kostadinov, said here Tuesday that they are campaigning for a high voter turnout in the June 9 elections for national and European Parliament. "What worries us is the absence of any campaign by the other parties which means that they are working to lower the turnout while we aim for the exact opposite. GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms want low turnout because over half of the votes they get are earned via payment, threats or otherwise controlling people," Kostadinov said at a campaign meeting in Burgas.
He said the same holds true for Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria, which "are falling apart right in front of our eyes". "They also want low turnout because the lower it is, the higher the share of their dwindling votes.
By contrast, Vazrazhdane is struggling for high turnout because "the country has reached an important crossroads where it was brought by the Euro-Atlantic course of development". He added that is even more of a dead-end-street than a crossroads.
