site.btaPM Warns of Possible Delay in Processing of June 9 Election Results Due to Extraordinary Volume of Work

Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev Thursday warned of possible delay in the processing of the votes from the June 9 elections for national and European Parliament due to the extraordinary volume of work. "At these elections, the tally sheets will have three times as many numbers as in the previous elections, and the number of constituency election commissions will be the same, which will result in having the official results later than usual," Glavchev said. He was speaking to the press after a Europe Day ceremony in central Sofia.

He warned against speculations over the possible delay. "Nothing can be done about it. The size of the constituency election commissions has been determined. Let us not stir tensions over the possible delay and blame it on other things. We [the government] will do our best," he said. 

According to Article 300 of the Elections Code, the Central Election Commission announces the votes received and the distribution of mandates among the parties and coalitions no later than 4 days after the election day. The names of the elected Members of Parliament are announced no later than 7 days after the election day.
