People with disabilities will have the right to a free vignette for an electric vehicle with up to 160 horsepower (hp), Parliament decided on Wednesday by adopting both on first and second reading draft amendments to the Road Traffic Act. The bill was tabled by Vazrazhdane Floor Leader Kostadin Kostadinov and a group of MPs.
The sponsors explain that the bill aims to fix a gap in legislation related to the use of electric vehicles by people with disabilities. The revisions exempt from vignette fees e-vehicles with 160 hp in addition to passenger cars with 160 hp.
Georgi Georgiev MP of Vazrazhdane said that he knows of one municipality where more than ten requests for a free vignette for people with disabilities have been turned down due to the current engine requirement, which electric vehicles do not meet. The bill amending the Road Traffic Act fixes this, he added.
