The European Heritage Days were celebrated with an event dedicated to the Bulgarian folk costume took place at the public library of the Moldovan town of Tvardita. The European Heritage Days in Moldova are taking place between September 25 and October 5. On this occasion, members of the library's folk-art club presented folk costumes from different generations. All the costumes are hand-woven and many of them are still used by the older generation every day, Valentina Barabas, director of the public library in Tvardita, told BTA.

"The event helped us discover the most beautiful treasures and heritage of the Bulgarian people, because these folk costumes are unique. They have been brought over from Bulgaria and although they have undergone many transformations, they have survived to this very day. Even in Bulgaria, such costumes no longer exist, as they are mixed and include elements from other cultures. However, the costumes of Tvardita are distinguished by their simplicity and originality, which cannot be found anywhere else, neither in Bulgaria nor in Bulgarian villages in Moldova. During the event, each participant presented his or her costume, which has its own specific purpose, be it summer or winter, depending on the event," Barabas said.
