Bulgaria’s Parliament Friday evening voted, 142-32, to adopt a 2032 Defence Investment Programme, moved by the Council of Ministers.

The programme's estimates are to be revised, adjusting the total armed forces strength to 43,000 instead of 37,000.

The funding received as compensation for military aid provided to Ukraine will be used for the implementation of the programme, according to the decision. The Finance Minister will approve additional expenditures in accordance with the Public Finances Act.

Every year, along with a Report on the State of the Defence and Armed Forces, the Council of Ministers submits a report on the implementation of the programme and/or its update to the National Assembly.

The current 2032 Defence Investment Programme was developed in line with a decision of the National Assembly and includes key projects for the Bulgarian Armed Forces’ rearmament, the Council of Ministers said. The programme's adoption by Parliament will set the framework for the rearmament of the Armed Forces.
