The Botanical Garden of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) will hold its 23rd "Spring Encounters with Plants" from April 13 to 20, BAS said.
The initiative kicks off on Saturday, when the International Plant Appreciation Day will be observed in Bulgaria for the first time. "The day is dedicated to recognizing the incredible diversity, beauty, and importance of plants. Plants provide us with oxygen, nutrients, and other resources. They sustain ecosystems. They bring joy and inspiration to our lives with their fascinating shapes and colours," the BAS botanists noted.
The Botanical Garden will be open every day from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. (4p.m. for the greenhouses).
Visitors will be able to enjoy a themed exhibition titled "The Green Leaf: The Oxygen Apparatus of the Planet".
Discussions on plants led by Assoc. Prof. Antoaneta Petrova will take place at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on April 13.
The Botanical Garden of BAS houses the richest public collection of plants in the Balkans, with over 4,500 species and forms of plants. Over 1% of the world's diversity of higher plants and over 3,300 species of plants from all continents are grown here.
