April 30 (BTA) - The total industry producer price index decreased by 2.1 per cent in March 2020, compared to previous month, the National Statistical Institute said Thursday. A decrease was registered in manufacturing (by 2.6 per cent), in the extractive industry and in the production and distribution of electricity, heat and gas, by 1 per cent each.

In the manufacturing industry lower producer prices were observed in the production of basic metals (by 0.6 per cent) and in the manufacture of articles of other non-metallic minerals (by 0.4 per cent). A higher price increase was registered in the manufacture of rubber and plastic products and in the manufacture of medicines and medical products (0.7 per cent each).

The overall producer price index in industry in March 2020 decreased by 1.5 per cent compared to the same month in 2019. Lower prices were registered in manufacturing by 3.7 per cent, while an increase was observed in the production and distribution of electricity, heat and gas (by 5.3 per cent), and in the extractive industry (by 0.2 per cent).

A more significant decrease was observed in: manufacture of basic metals (by 6.8 per cent), manufacture of paper, cardboard and articles of paper and cardboard (by 3.5 per cent) and in the and in wood processing, except for furniture (by 3.3 per cent).

A price increase in the manufacturing industry was observed in the following: leather processing and manufacture of leather goods, (by 4.9 per cent), manufacture of food products (by 4.2 per cent) and manufacture of tobacco products (by 3 per cent). RI/DT
