European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) President Oliver Roepke was awarded an honorary plaque by the Economic and Social Council of Bulgaria (ESC) for his contribution to the long and fruitful cooperation between the two organizations, said the ESC. The award was presented on March 20 by ESC President Zornitsa Rusinova in the presence of the Bulgarian members of the EESC. The award was given in recognition of the support and joint work on matters related to the economic and social development of Europe and the EU.

Rusinova participated in the EESC Plenary Session whose agenda included a panel dedicated to the European elections in 2024 through the prism of civil society. She stressed that the ESC works to build a sustainable and competitive economy, to accelerate the transition to a greener, more social and more digital Bulgaria and to prepare the country for joining the euro area and Schengen. In this context, the upcoming European Parliament elections are crucial for the continuation of policies and for the development of a strong, sustainable and peaceful Europe, she said.

For his part, Roepke said he was honoured to be awarded by Bulgaria's ESC. It is a long-standing, committed partner of the European Economic and Social Committee in strengthening Europe's civil society. Over the past 20 years, the ESC has been a strong advocate for European integration and has made the voices of Bulgaria's organized civil society heard far beyond the national borders, the EESC President said.
