Twenty customs officers have been temporarily suspended from work in response to reports of bribery, received by the Customs Agency from the Austrian Government and other partner agencies. An internal probe has been launched against the suspected corrupt Bulgarian officers, the Customs Agency said Wednesday.
The probes are initiated in connection with information received from various sources, including partner services and the Austrian Government, that Austrian carriers had been asked for bribes in order to avoid customs inspections and waits at the Bulgarian border.
Pending the completion of the probes, the officers have been suspended.
