One of the main strategic goals of health care is to achieve effective prevention, stated Executive Director of the Bulgarian Drug Agency Bogdan Kirilov during the 11th national pharma forum of Manager magazine taking place in Sofia. Kirilov said that the establishment of systems that can proactively identify potential shortages of medicines is being discussed at the European level. One of the solutions is the idea of building an electronic platform for monitoring drug shortages at the European level, with a horizon of February 25, 2025.
There is a global medicine crisis, Kirilov pointed out, adding that Bulgaria is focusing its efforts within the framework of European legislation, and recalling that after the COVID-19 crisis, the need to rethink the concept of production outside the Union has been discussed, especially when it comes to active substances.
The uneven distribution of pharmacies and the problem with supply chains are prerequisites for a shortage of medicines, which has intensified after the COVID-19 crisis, said Velina Grigorova from the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union. According to her, there should be legislative changes to deal with this shortage.
