The Bulgarian Embassy in Washington has organized a screening of the documentary "Navalny", attended by Bulgarian investigative journalist Christo Grozev, the Embassy said on Facebook.

The BAFTA- and Oscar-winning film is about Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny's survival of a poisoning attempt.

Grozev is one of the stars in the film and plays a key role in uncovering the perpetrators of Navalny's attempted poisoning in 2020.

After the film screening, Grozev said that Navalny's story shows the tragic end of a battle to change a man who will be remembered for his selflessness. Navalny and his entire family were prepared that he would be killed, yet they chose to return to Russia.

Grozev and his team will investigate Navalny's death and search for answers about the circumstances of the opposition leader's tragic end in a penal colony on February 16, 2024.

The event in memory of Navalny was intended for ambassadors of the European Union and NATO member states, diplomats, representatives of the presidential administration, and leading think tanks in Washington, the Embassy said.

The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Sonata Coulter, was among the guests. Bulgaria’s Ambassador to the US, Georgi Panayotov, delivered a welcome address, highlighting the importance of living in a free society.
