In 2023, the Ministry of Justice received 3,738 case files of discrepancies in documents required for obtaining Bulgarian citizenship, said Borislav Ganchev, Head of the Justice Minister's Political Cabinet during the first meeting of the ad hoc parliamentary committee of inquiry into the activities of Gleb Myshin, who reportedly arranged for Russians to obtain Bulgarian citizenship through a suspected scam.

In Ganchev's words, since the beginning of Atanas Slavov's term in office as Justice Minister, the Justice Ministry has filed eight alerts for a total of 78 people with documents containing discrepancies. The documents of more than 100 people have been identified with discrepancies, Ganchev added.

The ad hoc committee of inquiry into the activities of Myshin was set up on February 14. The committee will work for three months and will come up with a report on the results of its activities.
