The Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) parliamentary group will table a draft declaration in relation to the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and the upcoming second anniversary of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, Nikola Minchev MP of CC-DB said in the National Assembly on Wednesday. He was reading a declaration on behalf of his parliamentary group.

"Navalny's murder is a dark day for democracy but also for Russians themselves, who lost a true inspiration. At the same time, however, the example of his decisiveness remains stronger than ever. Navalny was a symbol while alive, and now he is a legend that will forever remain out of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin's control," the draft declaration reads.

"Navalny was killed out of fear in a country where the political elite rears and cultivates lack of political alternative," the document reads further. "Navalny died as a result of  years of excruciating conditions as a political prisoner, lack of medical care coupled with permanent phycological abuse. In the three years he was behind bars, Navalny spent over 300 days in solitary confinement. Members of his team warned multiple times that his health is worsening and that he might die in prison. The Kremlin's special attitude towards the Russian opposition leader continued for over a whole decade."

"Navalny created fear that there might be competition for power, fear which did not leave Putin in peace until the end. However, Navalny bequeathed to his compatriots to not fear. Today, the opponents of The Kremlin's regime are being terminated," the declaration also reads. According to the draft document, Navalny's death is a reminder that once the internal opposition is  terminated, next comes an attempt to terminate a neighbouring country as well, and that the lack of an internal corrective leads to external perversion.

Putin is fighting on two fronts: an external one against the Ukrainian state and an internal one against his own people, Minchev said.
