site.btaJustice Minister Comments on Allegations that Russian Nationals Buy Bulgarian Citizenship

Justice Minister Atanas Slavov Sunday commented on allegations that Russian nationals have bought Bulgarian citizenship. In a bTV appearance, he said the commission which grants citizenship includes representatives of the Interior Ministry and the State Agency for National Security and all the information is checked.

Slavov said several checks had been run and no such cases had been found since he took office in June 2023. During that period, more than 80 alerts have been submitted to the prosecution service about attempts at obtaining Bulgarian citizenship using counterfeit documents.
