Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeikov will hand over the registration documents for the heliport at the hospital to the executive director of St. Anna University Hospital in Sofia, Dr. Slavcho Bliznakov, the ministry said on Monday.

The site is the first in the capital to be registered in accordance with the requirements of European and Bulgarian legislation for registration of hospital heliports. It will be included in the Health Emergency Medical Services by Air (HEMS) system.

On Sunday, Minister Gvozdeikov told BNR that official confirmation has already been received from the manufacturer that the first Bulgarian medical helicopter will fly over on January 31, and on January 29 it will make the last test flight in Italy with Bulgarian crew on board.

A contractor has been selected to take out insurance, which is mandatory for the licensing of aviation operators. Gvozdeikov explained that a process is underway to establish temporary operating bases so as not to delay the process of commissioning the HEMS air emergency system.
