site.btaTaraclia Hosts Exhibition Dedicated to Poet Petro Burlak-Volkanov
An exhibition "Petro Burlak-Volkanov - Patriarch of the Bulgarian Poets in Bessarabia" was arranged in Branch 2 of the Taraclia District Library on January 18, the 85th anniversary of the artist's birth. The exposition consists of poetry collections and articles about his biography and work. It is aimed mainly at students and high-schoolers who study Bulgarian literature.
Petro Burlak-Volkanov was born in 1939 in the village of Babata (now Ostrovnoye), near Odesa, Ukraine. He graduated from the Pedagogical Institute in Tiraspol, Moldova. He is rightly considered the founder of modern poetry and prose in Bessarabian Bulgarian literature. His poetic debut was in 1967 with the publication of his first book of poems in Bulgarian, My Southern Plain. Subsequently, a total of 12 poetry collections were published" says the library's director Lidiya Karamalak.
Volkanov died on October 3, 2005.
Branch 2 of the district library is in the building of the newly opened Vasil Levski Multicultural Centre. Currently, over 1,600 books with Bulgarian titles can be found on the library shelves.
