Outgoing Commander of the Joint Forces Command (JFC) Major General Valeri Tsolov passed the baton to his successor Major General Krasimir Kanev, the press centre of the Ministry of Defence announced on Friday.

The signing ceremony was attended by Chief of Defence Admiral Emil Eftimov and his deputy, Lieutenant General Mikhail Popov. After the signing and approval of the act, an official ceremony was held to introduce the new commander.

Admiral Eftimov thanked the outgoing Commander Major General Valeri Tsolov for having dedicated nearly four decades of military service to the Bulgarian Army.

"Major General Kanev is the most suitable person for this position, given his professional path. I am confident that together you will handle the many tasks facing the JFC," Admiral Eftimov said.

"I leave you with a command that is ready to accomplish any task set before it. I leave you military formations with commanders who are leaders, knowledgeable, capable, and ready to perform any task," Major General Valeri Tsolov said in his address to the audience, after which he bade farewell to the battle flag.

For his proven professionalism, excellent performance of duties, responsibility, consistency and purpose, determination and high sense of responsibility, significant contribution to the elevation of the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence and the Bulgarian Armed Forces in front of our NATO and EU partners, Major General Tsolov was awarded by the Minister of Defence with the Medal of Honour “St. George the Victor” First Class, and a 7.62mm carbine, model 1959.
