Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovacevski participated in a working meeting of European leaders, and members of the Party of European Socialists (PES) in Brussels, the government press service in North Macedonia said on Thursday. The meeting discussed topical issues from the EU agenda in order to coordinate positions on the eve of the European Council summit. It was attended by several European leaders, including Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez, Portuguese PM Antonio Costa, Kosovo's PM Albin Kurti, as well as European Commission Vice-Presidents Maros Sefcovic and Josep Borel, Commissioners Paolo Gentiloni, Nicolas Schmit and Elisa Ferreira, among others.

Analyzing the past three decades for North Macedonia, Kovacevski stressed that "the progressive policies of the government of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia have brought the country out of the dark scenario of nationalism, backwardness and isolation".

Kovacevski said that North Macedonia is facing a new challenge, as there are both presidential and parliamentary elections. In his words, the new president and government should be pro-European and progressive. If the European agenda does not prevail, there will be a "dark scenario" which will return the country and the region to uncertainty and isolation, he stressed, adding that North Macedonia has gone through this once and should not repeat it.

According to Kovacevski, North Macedonia's integration into the EU will also guarantee the stability of the Western Balkans. "When the EU supports us, we win. When we win, Europe wins," Kovacevski said, as quoted by the press service.
