A two-day conference on education with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will be organised by the Education Ministry in February 2023 in Sofia and will be attended by OECD's Director of Education and Skills Andreas Schleicher and his team, Education Minister Galin Tzokov said in Bucharest in an interview for BTA on Thursday. Tzokov is in Bucharest to participate in a conference of the Organisation for Identity and Cultural Development on education and skills for the future.

The OECD representatives "will see our schools on the spot, we will talk in the concrete cultural and educational environment about the problems we are facing and, of course, we will seek more serious support in the future," Tzokov said. He added that the Council of Ministers has approved and the European Commission is also expected to approve an OECD technical assistance project to develop more competency-based curricula.

Among the topics discussed at the Bucharest forum were how teachers should teach and assess knowledge, how to build skills related to the possibility of using modern digital tools, including artificial intelligence, among others.

In the framework of his visit to Romania Tzokov met with his Romanian counterpart Ligia Deca. In October, again in Bucharest, the two discussed the change in teacher training and opportunities for future cooperation.
