The Council of Ministers Wednesday adopted a decision to appoint Giovanni de Luca as honorary (non-permanent) consular officer of Bulgaria in Italy, with headquarters in the city of Messina and consular districts covering the territory of the provinces of Messina, Enna, Catania, Syracuse, and Ragusa in the region of Sicily, and to open a consulate headed by him.

De Luca has years of experience in agricultural engineering as well as his own agro-technical consultancy firm. His appointment as honorary consular officer of Bulgaria in Italy will contribute to expanding and deepening cooperation in all areas of mutual interest: trade development, promoting business between the two countries, attracting new investments and tourists. The appointment of an honorary consul of Bulgaria in Messina will be an impetus for cultural exchange and will enhance the interaction with the Bulgarian community in the region of Sicily.
