Parliament adopted on first and second reading on Wednesday amendments to the Film Industry Act that remove inconsistencies in the texts. Throughout, the word "persons" is replaced by "children" in warning labels and signs about harmful content, the amendments stipulate.
The bill was introduced by Radomir Cholakov of GERB-UDF. According to him, the texts of the Film Industry Act should be synchronised with the Child Protection Act, under which a "child" is any natural person up to the age of 18. In his reasoning, Cholakov points out that the Film Industry Act uses the terms 'children' and 'persons' to mean the same thing and this inaccuracy should be corrected and the text brought into line with the definitions in the Child Protection Act and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
