site.btaJustice Minister Slavov: Bulgarian Lawyers Have Always Defended Fair Trial

“When the rule of law, human rights and fair trial have to be defended, Bulgarian lawyers have always been on the right side,” said Justice Minister Atanas Slavov on the occasion of November 22, Lawyer’s Day, the Justice Ministry said. 
 
Minister Slavov took part in a conference on the constitutional reform and the role of lawyers, organized by the Sofia Bar Association.  
He outlined three highlights of the proposed constitutional reform. Firstly, independence of the court through an autonomous Supreme Judicial Council with a majority of judges, meeting the criteria for independence.

Secondly, a reform of the prosecution service and the statute of the prosecutor general to avoid abuse of power. Thirdly, a reform of constitutional justice through the introduction of the individual constitutional complaint and allowing all courts to petition the Constitutional Court  

Minister Slavov thanked lawyers for their leading role in the process of enhancing the constitutional and judicial system.
