An official delegation from the Defence Ministry, led by Deputy Minister Atanas Zapryanov, paid homage to the Bulgarian soldiers who died on the territory of present-day North Macedonia on All Souls’ Day, the Defence Ministry said.

The commemoration ceremony took place at the Bulgarian military cemetery in the village of Capari, near Bitola.

Wreaths and flowers were laid on behalf of the Defence Minister, the Defence Chief, Bulgarian and foreign diplomatic missions. Attending were the military attaches of France, Hungary, the UK, Croatia, Italy, Romania, Bulgarian Ambassador to Skopje Angel Angelov, diplomats and employees of the Bulgarian Embassy and the Consulate General in Bitola, members of the public and of patriotic associations.

A memorial service was held at the St George Church in Capari by Metropolitan Kipriyan of Stara Zagora and Metropolitan Peter of Prespa and Pelagonia.

On Friday and Saturday the Bulgarian delegation laid wreaths and flowers at places of great significance to the Bulgarian military history: the monument to 193 Bulgarian officers and soldiers near the village of Drenovo, the monuments in the church courtyard in Beranci and in Brod, dedicated to officers and soldiers of all nationalities who died on the Salonica front in the First World War; the memorial to Bulgarian soldiers in the Bulgarian-German military cemetery in Prilep.

Participating in the rituals were cadets from the Vasil Levski National Military University, who this summer visited places of Bulgarian military glory and namely Dojran, the site of a decisive battle fought by Bulgarian troops in the First World War.

On Saturday memorial services were held across the whole country in honour of fallen soldiers.
